BASIC SNAKE AWARENESS, HANDLING AND FIRST AID

Course Overview:

The course can be completed by anyone who needs the skills required to handle snakes, or needs an understanding of basic snakebite first aid. Learners will understand the basics about snake behaviour, their preferred environments and climate, the identification of the deadly species of Southern Africa, life-saving procedures in the event of a snake bite, and basic snake-handling skills.

Course content:

  • Thirty-eight modules
  • CPR and techniques to handle choking for victims of all ages (including ventilation with barrier devices, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask devices with supplemental oxygen, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators)
  • An 80-page BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual and CD-ROM (containing relevant anatomy and physiology; the clinical presentation of coronary heart disease, stroke, special situations, and risk factors for heart disease and stroke. The CD-ROM also includes video clip demonstrations of adult, child and infant CPR and choking, the use of bag-valve-masks and automated external defibrillators)
